Georgetown Insurance Service, Inc.

Describe your job. What do you do?
I’m an account executive at Georgetown and work with two different insurance agents, servicing their commercial clients. I help clients with their day-to-day needs such as answering questions, making policy changes, providing certificates, assisting with claims, and more. I also market accounts, process and negotiate renewals with insurance carriers, and provide quotes for new lines of business.
How/Why did you get into the insurance industry?
Truthfully, I never really planned to work in insurance. After college, I got a job at an insurance agency in Pennsylvania working as a receptionist. I was getting married and moving to Maryland so I was only there for about a year. Once I moved, I made the decision to stay in insurance and began working at an agency in Rockville as a customer service rep “in training.” I proceeded to get my agents license and continued working in commercial lines, servicing business accounts. After about 16 years at that agency, I came to work at Georgetown…and the rest is history!
What is your daily ritual? What do you do to start and end your day?
My usual day consists of waking up early, grabbing a cup of coffee, playing with and feeding my two dogs, and getting ready for work. I then head out the door for my long commute to the office, a whole 2.5 miles down the road. Next is more coffee, turn on my computer, and see what awaits. I spend my day working with clients and insurance carriers, answering emails, fielding phone calls, etc. My day ends with a slightly longer, 5-minute commute home where I then enjoy dinner with the family, more dog stuff, and prepare to do it all over again the next day.
What’s the most challenging part of your job?
I would say the most challenging part of my job is keeping up with constantly changing insurance markets. Our agency represents several insurance companies, and each carrier is continuously changing the types of businesses they will write as well as their rates and policy forms. As account executives, we need to be aware of all these changes in order to ensure that we’re doing the best job possible for our clients.
What do you like best about your job and/or working at Georgetown Insurance?
Obviously, the commute! Just kidding (sort of). Honestly, I have to say that the people at Georgetown are the absolute best. We all work together as a team and truly help each other out. Each person has their area of expertise so there is always someone to call when you need help with a particular situation—and everyone is always eager to do so.
What makes Georgetown Insurance different than previous places you’ve worked?
I’d say the integrity of the agency and our commitment to making each of our clients at top priority, no matter the situation.
