Being a mechanic is tough work. Keeping track of all your gear, tools, and equipment while simultaneously working to diagnosis an issue can be hard. But in May’s craziest claim, one employee who decided to light his own way ended up encountering a fiery surprise.
While working in the shop, the mechanic’s hat fell of his head and tumbled into the bottom of an oil barrel. Since he didn’t have a flashlight, he decided to look inside the barrel using a lighter so he could better see his hat and retrieve it. Unfortunately, the barrel had been used to dispose of rags doused in flammable materials such as oil, gas, grease, etc. The flame from the lighter caused an explosion that burned the poor mechanic’s face and upper body.
